How to promote and maintain a healthier lifestyle

The study of human overall health is a broad topic, but the definition of health has evolved over the past decade. In early 1900 health was seen as the ability to deal with biology, psychological, physical and social stress. But in 1986 research done by Ottawa charter for health shows that human health is not just a state, but it is a resource for everyday life. They elaborated that "health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources; as well as physical capacities".

It is proven and documented that each individual can improve his/her health status by getting enough sleep, exercising, limit alcohol intake, avoid smoking and eating a healthy balanced diet.
Although there are different ways in which person can be affected by certain health conditions such as inherited trait from parent communicable diseases both viral and bacterial and others could be common unforeseen bodily injuries. Just to let you know that all of these health issues can improve or even eradicated if they are approach from the correct standing point.

Three tremendous ways to build and maintain a healthier lifestyle

1. First, stage to a healthier lifestyle is to consume a healthier balanced diet- There is quote, that says whatever you eat or do becomes who you are. When an individual eats unhealthy diets in the long term the body slowly starve to death.
Things that contribute to an individual consuming unhealthy diets are poverty, family tradition, dysfunctional family, time management, depression and lack of knowledge about health.

Most of the common symptoms that associated with unhealthy diet are a lack of energy, poor sleeping pattern, water retention and heartburn. If the body remain in this condition, over a period of time it will lead to illnesses like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, cancer, obesity, high cholesterol, liver damage, anemia, dental cavities, osteoporosis and even more.

Many individuals who suffer from diseases associated with unhealthy diet finds it hard to change eating their habit. Healthy eating habit consists of different, variety of plants and animal- based foods which give the body vital energy, build and strengthen bone, muscle, and also lower the risk of diseases. Don't matter what the reason is for consuming unhealthy diets, in the end, it will destroy the body. But if a healthier diet is achieved it will pave the path for a better and brighter future.

2. The second path to healthier, lifestyle is exercising- exercising is a very important component which is needed to achieve a healthier lifestyle. Regular exercise helps the body to improve mood cycle, prevent diseases or other health issues, control weight, boost energy, enhance and improve sex life, promote better sleep pattern, strengthen muscle, boost the immune system and help to alleviate stress and depression and more.

Adapting physical activities is an awesome way to enhance and maintain physical fitness. It is very important to exercise about 30 to 40 minutes each day. There are many ways in which exercising can be done such as walking or cycling, lifting weights, climbing stairs, gardening, and swimming.

Remember the lack of exercising can cause serious illnesses such as obesity, unhealthy bone mass, blood clot, weak immune system and a lot of other chronic diseases. So ask yourself this question, is it better to exercise or to have all of these health issues?.

3. The final path to a healthier lifestyle is sleeping- Getting adequate sleep is very vital in maintaining proper health. Research has concluded that every human at different stages of their lives needs an adequate amount of sleep each day for proper function of the body's metabolism.

Infant needs 12-15 hours of sleep each day
Toddlers 1-2 years needs about 11-14 hours of sleep each day
Preschoolers 3-5 years needs 10-13 hours of sleep each day
School age children 6-13 years needs 9-11 hours of sleep each day
Teenagers 14-17 years needs 2-4 hour of sleep each day
Adult 18-64 years needs 7-9 hours of sleep each day
Older adult 65 years and over needs 7-8 hours of sleep each day

although known by most individuals, that sleeping is a very important commodity for a healthier function of the body, yet only a few really gets the required amount. Some even make it worst by incorporating negative habit to a proper rest such as the consuming of energy drinks before bedtime,  electronic items playing while sleeping and sleeping in bright light.

Lack of sleep impacts both our mental and physical health, it has contributed to many illnesses such as high blood pressure, depression, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, anxiety disorder, low energy, migraine headache and much more. So, in order to reverse these bad sleeping habits, an environment must be created that is conducive to a better sleeping condition and all bad habits that will disrupt your sleep should be dismantled.

It's in the best interest for each individual to seek all the knowledge that is necessary for a healthier lifestyle. Also, strive to discipline your mind and body to eat healthier, get adequate sleep and exercise more, all of which will help to promote and maintain a healthier lifestyle.

Remember it does matter what your goal or aspiration is, if your health fails, you won't achieve them. So try to do everything you can now before it's too late.
